ABOUT Kabissa

This project is very much of a crossroad type. At the junction between personal life and commitment to serve, privacy and public life. A mixture of love, family, community, life and economy. Yuanzicun/Wulong/Dongchuan/Kunming/Yunnan/ China/Asia/world is a place in the middle of a green zone in the deep Chinese mountainous countryside adorned with beauty, authenticity, it is a place to live , to meditate, to think, to work, to connect, to breath, to be silent, to share.

Patrick will live there with Minyan who is native of Dongchuan and profoundly rooted there. They will set up here a place for harmony, a reference for their six children coming from all over the world, an Eco-residence with small accommodation and gathering facility, a farm with 2 ha land that will devote itself to organic farming in tight connection with its surrounding community. This idea came out of the encounter of two people. Patrick will look upon the English, French and Dutch part of this website, Minyan will look for the Chinese part. Their relationship will connect both. You will find here a presentation of the family. Patrick always had the dream to have children under his roof coming from all over world. In addition to the family, Patrick and the farm you will find on this site : – the chronicles of Yuancizun, the history of the place, the narrative of the joys, pains, challenges. We will also organize small group sessions to ponder and discuss about Man and Nature, Personal and Community Development, City and Countryside……The contend and conclusions of these sessions will be displayed there. – a special page for Cleantec (alternative energy, energy conservation, water and waste management), We will apply and test these on site and will report and advertise about our findings. WHYThis project

For pondering about man and nature, civilization and respect of life, city and countryside. Patrick has come to his third age and wishes to go back to the essential. Minyan comes from a worker’s  family which we are proud of. She has left her place because she had to. She left Dongchuan in 2006. She comes back with a relief and her immense love for life. Both Minyan and Patrick wish to live in this retreat and at the same time keep busy with taking care of family and earning a frugal living. Minyan will be Yuanzicun keeper, she knows about the place and the people. Minyan, who founded a Yunnan restaurant in Beijing, TASTE, that was awarded four consecutive years with four stars by TRIPAVISOR, will propose a unique table for Dongchuan people to discover the Italian and French kitchen flavors she explored in Beijing with her European friends. Patrick will enjoy his retirement and go ahead smoothly, as a wise man on the hill, with his global facilitator activity. He will come here for writing, reading, bringing his friends and fellow thinkers together for sharing sessions. Opening the heart of this truly deep Chinese countryside to the international world.

THE FARMitself

The existing building 400 square meters big was built 6 years ago by local farmers under the normal patterns used locally.
These facilities encompass a small basic living quarter. The constructions are mainly meant for cattle and storage of crops. It had been abandoned for one year before Minyan and Patrick took it over in November 2013. The farm is located in a green zone of Dongchuan district called Wulong. The Village name is Yuanzicun. The farmhouse is isolated, the closest village being 1 kilometer away. It is accessible by a small track that leads to an hamlet and us. It takes about three hours to reach Dongchuan from Kunming airport and another one our to reach Wulong. Yuanzicun is half an our drive from Wulong. Getting there is moving from highway to normal way, to small way, to dust track and reaching the profound silence of the mountain where you hear nothing but the birds and where you can breath the most you can.

The farm is 2ha big. 1 ha are planted with pine trees that are protected. The rest will be used for fruits, berries, new crops that can enrich the existing ones in the region and open new horizons.

THE ECOLOGICALrules

There will be rules, drastic ones that are the charter of Yuanzicun : drastically Organic. No pesticide and chemical fertilizers. The animal living there will never be slaughtered. All what will come in will be recyclable and recycled. No plastic, no detergents, no unnecessary wrappings, cradle to cradle items in a chain of life and revivals.
The biologically reprocessed waste water will be used in the farming. Therefore no detergents can get in the system, only biodegradable washing products that can be absorbed by the environment will be used in the daily life and by people living and attending the place.

We will do all what is possible to reach an energy autonomous stage where solar, biomass, wind, all possible clean energy will be produced on the spot. We will look for all available small scale energy producing systems and will bring them in.

THE AIMof the project

The farm will be used as a window case for :

– recyclable material for packing….
– water management,
– garbage processing,
– recyclable washing products,
– small scale energy production.

The farm will be opened to the community. We are in the middle of existing farming communities that we wish to engage with. This will take place by listening to them carefully, understanding their Wisdom and habits with full respect. At the same time we will use Yanzicun as a platform to train the people around, teach them about the world around and the existing technologies that we will introduce in Yuanzicun.

Minyan and Patrick are fond of children and wish to have them coming to Yanzicun for English lessons or whatever we will find out to be useful to them.
